Mehdi Hmili's STREAMS to screen in Zawya

Mehdi Hmili's STREAMS is set to be screened at Zawya Cinema on December 15th and 19th at 7 pm.
 
Recently, STREAMS was screened at the 2022 Maghreb Film Festival of Oujda in Morocco and Alyssa Tunisian Film Festival in London, where it won the Best Feature Film Award. 
 
It also joined several international festivals in 2022, screening at the Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden — where it received the Best Director Award — Durban International Film Festival in South Africa, FEST – New Directors /New Films Festival in Portugal, Amman International Film Festival in Jordan, and Sguardi Altrove Film Festival in Italy. 
 
Written and directed by Mehdi Hmili, STREAMS — which stars Afef Ben Mahmoud, Iheb Bouyahia, Zaza, Sarah Hannachi, and Slim Baccar, with music by Amine Bouhafa — follows the story of Amel, who was just released from prison after an adulterous affair. 
 
In the depths of Tunis, Amel is searching for her missing son, Moumen. During her journey, Amel encounters a Tunisian society in full collapse. 
 
MAD Solutions is managing the film's distribution across the Arab world.
 
The film also garnered widespread acclaim with Thomas Duffy in the Film Book, where he said: "There's not a moment in this film that doesn't feel totally authentic." 
 
Meanwhile, Redmond Bacon in Dirty Movies said: "Starting off slowly before growing into a masterful work, this Tunisian movie is one of the standout films from the Locarno Film Festival."
 
STREAMS is a joint production between Yol Film House (Tunisia), Tarantula (Luxembourg), MPM Film (France), Clandestino Production (Tunisia), and in association with Allam Film (US). 
 
In 2021, the film's leading actress, Afef Ben Mahmoud, won the Best Actress Award at the Cairo International Film Festival, where it competed at the festival’s Horizons of Arab Cinema Competition. 
 
STREAMS world premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in the Filmmakers of the Present Competition. Afterward, it was screened at the Zurich Film Festival, Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani, International Mediterranean Film Festival Montpellier, and Festival du Film Arabe de Fameck
 
Mehdi Hmili is a Tunisian writer, poet, and filmmaker. While in France, he directed his short trilogy about love and exile: X-MOMENT (2009), LI-LA (2011), and THE NIGHT OF BADR (2012). 
 
His first feature-length film, THALA MON AMOUR (2016), was selected for international festivals like the Torino Film Festival and Carthage Film Festival and won several prizes. Moreover, his most recent film, FOULEDH, was selected for La Fabrique Cinema at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
