Sherief Elkatsha

Sherief Elkatsha was born in the US, raised in Cairo, and currently lives between Cairo and New York.

His first documentary BUTTS OUT, which was about five smokers and their struggles to quit, received the Best Documentary Award at the 2006 New England Film and Video Festival.

Elkatsha was also the cinematographer for CAIRO GARBAGE (2009) by Mikala Krogh and worked on CITIES ON SPEED.

Then, in 2013, Elkatsha premiered his third feature documentary, CAIRO DRIVE, which was awarded Best Film from the Arab World at the 2013 Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Grand Jury Prize at the 2014 DOC NYC, and a special mention at Open City Docs in London in the same year.
