Sarah Francis

Sarah Francis is a Lebanese filmmaker who grew up and studied in Beirut. Her work is characterized by immersive sonic landscapes and visually rich tableaus that explore the fluid nature of our place in the world. Through her films, she examines the constant reassessment of our positions, where shifting elements continuously form new constellations. Her storytelling often intertwines inner and geographical territories, reflecting on themes of origins, transitions, and the nuanced space between them.
Her debut feature, BIRDS OF SEPTEMBER (2013), premiered in the main competition of CPH:DOX and was showcased at over 40 festivals, earning multiple accolades in South Korea, Sarajevo, Tetouan, France, and Dublin. Furthermore, her second feature, AS ABOVE, SO BELOW (2020), was nominated for Best Documentary in the New Directors Competition at the 2020 São Paulo International Film Festival.
