Hosam Abu Dan
Hosam Abu Dan is a Palestinian director and producer from the Gaza Strip. Born in 1992, he has worked across film, television, and media production since 2010, building a multidisciplinary background that spans editing, cinematography, screenwriting, directing, and production. He holds a Diploma in Multimedia Technology (2012) and a Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication (2023), alongside advanced training in documentary and cinematic directing.
In 2016, Abu Dan founded New Scene for Media & Artistic Production. Through New Scene, he has produced and directed documentary, narrative, television, and digital projects in collaboration with leading regional and international networks, including Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera 360, Alaraby TV, and UNRWA TV. His early short A DROP earned second place in UNRWA’s Clothesline competition in 2012, followed by works such as the short fiction DIM LIGHT (2015), the documentary SIX MILES OUT (2017), and the drama series ANQOUD (2020) and GILBOA PRISON (2022). His acclaimed 2024 documentary GAZA SOUND MAN gained widespread international recognition, winning a Karama Gold Award, a Telly Award, and a Shorty Bronze, while being selected among the Top 5 films at Sheffield DocFest 2025.
Rooted in the intimate details of Palestinian life, Abu Dan’s artistic approach merges observational realism with visual restraint. His work reflects a sustained interest in how political realities intersect with family dynamics, memory, physical experience, and daily survival. THIRTEEN IN GAZA marks his debut feature-length fiction film.
