Omar Shargawi

Born in Denmark, Shargawi started his career as a still-photographer before he directed his debut feature film, Ma Salama Jamil (Go With Peace Jamil), which premiered in 2008 and won several awards in international film festivals. My Father from Haifa is his personal documentary, which won Special Jury Award at Muhr Arab Documentary Competition in addition to the People’s Choice Award of Best Film at Dubai International Film Festival and Robert Awards for Best Documentary in 2010. In 2011, Shargawi co-directed ½ Revolution, alongside Karim El Hakim, the film which portrays the first days of the Egyptian revolution against Egypt President Hosni Mubarak. The film was awarded Al Jazeera Documentary Golden Award, nominated for Best Feature Documentary at Sundance Film Festival and received a Special Mention at CPH DOX.
