11 January 2024
Following its screening for the first time in Paris, Alaa Mahmoud’s short film 1+1 is scheduled to compete as part of the Egyptian Short Film Competition of the fifth edition of the Cairo International Short Film Festival, which will be running from December 19th to the 22nd at the Cairo Opera House.

The film will be screened on Wednesday, December 20th at 7 pm at the El Hanager Cinema of the Cairo Opera House.

After the great war decimated the city, only a man and a woman from the opposing sides remained, struggling with whether to continue fighting or live in peace.

Distributed worldwide by MAD Solutions, the film stars British award-winning actor Amir El-Masry and beloved Egyptian actress Sarrah Abdelrahman and tackles the physical and moral effects of war.

Previously, 1+1 screened at the Aswan International Women's Film Festival, Meta Film Festival, and Tripoli Film Festival.

Alaa Mahmoud is an Egyptian filmmaker who graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo and is known for her first short film — 1+1.

While studying at the institute, she worked as an assistant director and was selected among 10 female directors from as many countries for an artistic residency to develop a script at the 2019 International Women's Film Festival in Tunisia.

Currently, Mahmoud is working on a new project titled MY GRANDMOTHER’S DRESS.
