10 June 2024
Following the remarkable success of Egyptian director Mohamed El-Samman's feature film RAT HOLE on the festival trail and its packed initial screening at Zawya Cinema, the highly acclaimed film is scheduled to screen once more at Cairo’s most popular theater for indie-films on June 12th at 9 pm, with director Mohamed El-Samman and lead actress Rana Khattab set to attend and participate in a special post-screening Q&A session.

Previously, RAT HOLE held a successful world premiere at Egypt’s Aswan International Film Festival, garnering widespread praise for its poignant storytelling and the exceptional performance delivered by Rana Khattab, which earned her a Special Jury Award for Best Actress at last year’s Amman International Film Festival.

The upcoming screening presents a unique opportunity for film enthusiasts to engage with the director and lead actress as they share insights into the making of RAT HOLE and the compelling narrative that has resonated with audiences globally. Attendees will have the chance to delve into the behind-the-scenes stories and gain a deeper understanding of the film's impact and significance.

The film delves into the gripping story of a telemarketer for a non-profit organization who is compelled to compromise her principles in order to support her family, shedding light on the darker side of the NGO in which she is employed. The film's compelling portrayal of the protagonist's moral dilemma and its exploration of social issues have earned it high acclaim and positive reviews from critics.

The film was written, produced, and directed by Mohamed El Samman and stars Rana Khattab who appeared in several hit series, including Yasser Galal’s LAMS AKTAF, Hamada Helal’s AL MADDAH, and Ahmed El Sakka’s Al ATAWLA as well as a number of films, including MOMMIES GROUP and 3AMMOHOM. It also stars Mohamed Yorka, Kamal El-Asnawy, and Hanan Helmy, among others, and is distributed in Arab-speaking countries by MAD Distribution.

Egyptian writer and director Mohammed El Samman is a member of the Egyptian Cinema Syndicate's Directing Department. He released two novels, UNEXPECTED MR. RIGHT and REMONDA. His script, EARTHMEN, also won the Sawiris Cultural Award for Best Script of 2022.
