02 October 2024
The Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced on October 1st that Nada Mezni Hafaiedh’s acclaimed film TAKE MY BREATH has been selected as Tunisia’s official submission for the Best International Feature category at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards.

This remarkable announcement comes on the heels of the film's recent triumph at the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival, where it was honored with the Best Feature Film Award.

TAKE MY BREATH has captivated audiences worldwide, holding its world premiere at the prestigious Warsaw International Film Festival and drawing critical acclaim for its poignant storytelling and powerful performances. It also made its way to the Geneva International oriental Film Festival, where it picked up its FIFOG d’Or for Best Film and a Best Actress Special Jury Mention for the film's lead actress, Amina Ben Smail, whose talent has been widely recognized and is set to star in Pierro Mesina’s upcoming sci-fi film ANOTHER END alongside renowned actors Gael García Bernal and Renate Reinsve.

The film tells the gripping story of 23-year-old Shams, whose life is enveloped in secrecy and profound pain. As she navigates a society that shuns her true self, TAKE MY BREATH explores themes of acceptance, love, and resilience against the backdrop of rigid societal expectations.

Written and directed by Nada Mezni Hafaiedh, with a screenplay co-written alongside Pascal Jousse, TAKE MY BREATH is produced by Leyth Production and Hamzeh Mystique Films, with Slim Hafaiedh and Ziad Hamzeh serving as producers. It also stars Mohammed Mrad, Sana Ben Cheikh Larbi, and Aymen Ben Hmida, and is distributed worldwide and in the MENA region by MAD World and MAD Distribution, respectively.

Nada Mezni Hafaiedh is a passionate filmmaker with a diverse cultural background and a fearless approach to storytelling. Renowned for her courage in addressing taboo subjects and delving into issues of freedom, Nada's storytelling is both realistic and spontaneous.

Notably, her work includes HEKAYAT TOUNISIA 2010 — a groundbreaking film that was released shortly after Tunisia's revolution. This film later evolved into a television series, capturing the spirit of the times.
