Catch the Opening Film of Un Certain Regard: PROMISED SKY Screening Times at Cannes!

14 May 2025
PROMISED SKY, the new film by Erige Sehiri, has been selected as the Opening Film for the Un Certain Regard section at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. It will have its World Premiere on Wednesday, May 14 at 19:00 in Salle Debussy, one of the festival’s most prestigious venues.
If you’re at Cannes, you definitely don’t want to miss PROMISED SKY. The film will also be screening on Thursday, May 15 at 08:30 in Salle Debussy and 17:15 at Cineum Imax, with a final screening on Friday, May 16 at 14:15 in Cineum Aurore.

PROMISED SKY follows Marie, an Ivorian pastor and former journalist who lives in Tunis. Her home becomes a refuge for Naney, a young mother seeking a better future, and Jolie, a strong-willed student carrying her family’s hopes. The arrival of a little orphan girl challenges their sense of solidarity in a tense social climate, revealing both their fragility and strength.
After the success of Shiri's first feature UNDER THE FIG TREES, which was selected for the 54th Directors' Fortnight and even represented Tunisia at the Oscars, Erige Sehiri is back with another powerful story that blends documentary-style realism with a compelling narrative. Directed and co-produced by Sehiri, with cinematography by Frida Marzouk, who also worked on John Wick, PROMISED SKY is a cinematic experience you won’t forget.

Starring Aïssa Maïga, Laetitia Ky, Deborah Naney, and Mohamed Grayaa, PROMISED SKY is produced by Didar Domehri and distributed in the Arab world by MAD Distribution. In addition to her filmmaking career, Sehiri is an advocate for media literacy and freedom of expression. She co-founded the media outlet INKYFADA and the NGO Al KHATT, and is a founding member of Rawiyat–Sisters in Film, a collective supporting women filmmakers across the Arab world.
Erige Sehiri’s PROMISED SKY is sure to make waves, and its Cannes premiere is one you won’t want to miss!
