Trapped Screens at Religion Today Film Festival in Italy

TRAPPED directed by Manal Khaledshall join the 25th edition of Religion Today Film Festival, which is held in several cities in Italy from September 14 to 29, as part of the film's world tour that began with Arabsik Filmfest in Norway.
The film received lots of positive reviews on the Arab and international level, where it was described By Southwest Festival Newsletter, “Trapped is a powerful, inspiring and radical work that makes one excited to see what Manal Khaled will come up with next.” While Romman magazine said, “The film creates a light, implicit, and smooth form of the spontaneous revolutionary dialogue that connected Egyptians at all socioeconomic and intellectual levels.”
The storyline of the film follows a group of women coming from different social backgrounds who find themselves trapped by their own quest for freedom. The film tackles the broader sense of being trapped sometimes in one's thoughts, inner conflict and ideas. For entrapment is by all means not limited to concrete walls and shackles.
The film toured a number of international festivals, including the Best Feature film Award at Tunisia Karama - Human Screen Festival as well as Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Beirut, Palestine Cinema Days, Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film, Mostra de València –Cinema del Mediterrani, San Diego Arab Film Festival in USA, Arab and Mediterranean Film Festival of Catalonia, and Festival de Cine por Mujeres, Madrid.
TRAPPED is directed and produced by Manal Khaled, screenplay by ManalKhaled and Rasha Azab, with a star-studded cast including,Caroline Khalil, Reem Higab, Osama Abo Al Ata, Ne’ma Mohsen, Mona Mokhtar, Tharaa Goubail, Rajwa Hamed, Zeina Mansour, Habiba Effat and Fadel El Garhy.MAD Solutions is in charge of the film’s distribution across the Arab world.
Manal Khaled is an Egyptian filmmaker who studied Philosophy at the University of Alexandria. She worked as an assistant director at Misr International Film. In addition, she has vast experience working with award winning directors, including: Saad Hendawi, Kamla Abou Zekri, Hani Khalifa and Mohamed Ali. She also attended several master classes and workshops on filmmaking, screenwriting and film criticism. Most recently, she has finished shooting her feminist long documentary film AN HOUR OR SO with the American director Adolfo Martinez.
